Quality Standards

Seed Services Australia is accredited by the Australian Seeds Authority (ASA), through Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Australia (AFFA), to conduct the OECD Seed Schemes varietal certification in Australia. This scheme increases the marketability of seed by providing access to specific overseas markets.

NATA Accreditation

In line with Australian Seeds Authority requirements – it has NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accreditation for its seed certification field inspection services, which includes compliance with ISO/IEC 17020. While our service has an esteemed and immensely proud seven decade history in seed certification provision and was an inaugural Australian provider of OECD certification schemes in the 1970s – in the context of today’s structure of the seed industry – this achievement means our service can continue providing OECD and Australian Domestic certification seed schemes to our Australia-wide client base.

ISTA Accreditation

The Seed Services laboratory is a world class ISTA accredited seed testing laboratory. The aim of the ISTA Quality Assurance Accreditation Programme is to harmonise the performance of the ISTA accredited seed testing laboratories on a high level worldwide.
With the two pillars of the programme, the ISTA International Proficiency Test Programme and the ISTA International Audit Programme, ISTA can assure the trueness and reproducibility of test results on international level being an important precondition for a smooth international seed trade.

Recent studies show clearly that ISTA accredited laboratories have an evidently better performance in proficiency tests than non-ISTA accredited laboratories.

Orange and Blue International Certificates

These internationally recognised seed trade documents provide seed buyers around the world with independent verification of the physical quality of seed offered for sale.

Phytosanitary declarations

The phytosanitary requirements of importing countries can be complex. Seed Services Australia can help meet these requirements through the issue of phytosanitary declarations based on:

  • Analysis of seed samples
  • Access to seed health surveys and information provided by other organisations
  • Records of certification field inspections
  • Specialised phytosanitary field inspections

These declarations are used by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service to issue phytosanitary certificates essential to international seed trade.
