A chemical (tetrazolium) test can provide this information in three days.

Challenge: Canola establishment disappointing
Germination tests for some WA canola seed indicated it had high germinability, but establishment in the field was disappointing.

Solution: Vigour test developed
Seed Services Australia researched and developed a test to determine vigour in canola seed. This test shows the speed at which a crop could establish in the field under realistic, sometimes harsh conditions. The test itself went through a rigorous testing process to ensure it was reliable and is now offered commercially as the optimum indicator of the field planting value of canola.
