You can’t beat a government inspection service for credibility in the market place.
We tailor field inspection services to seed industry needs.
Several major export markets for Australian lucerne seed including Argentina and European Union member countries require declarations of freedom from bacterial wilt. The detection of bacterial wilt in a lucerne seed crop in the Keith area was a concern for all lucerne growers in the area, threatening access to important export markets. The export trade could no longer rely on broad-scale area freedom declarations.
Industry and government agreed to only issue phytosanitary declarations based on a spring paddock inspection when the diseases and weeds would be most readily seen in the field.
Seed Services Australia was able to offer lucerne seed growers a special phytosanitary field inspection for bacterial wilt as well as for Orobanche spp., stem nematode and perennial thistle. This meant that phytosanitary declarations could be produced for individual paddocks found to be disease and weed free.
