Background
The Lower Eyre Peninsula Bushfire Re-Establishment Program was developed to assist landholders to recover from and re-establish after the January 2005 bushfires. The program aimed to encourage adoption of sustainable production practices with a signifcant emphasis on natural resources management and protection.
The Lower Eyre Peninsula Bushfire Re-Establishment Program required a communications plan, resulting in:
- Increased awareness and positive perception of the program
- Acknowledgement of community and individual participation in the program
- Engagement of specific audiences
- Improved relationships with local print and broadcast media
Our Role
Rural Solutions SA were contracted to develop a plan that defined, described and identifed:
- Potential barriers to communication
- Target audiences
- Key messages
- Branding
- Delivery methods and mechanisms
- Resources and skills required
- Opportunities to enhance communication and media liaison skills
- Action plans including timing, resourcing, budgets and evaluation
- Media contacts
Outcomes
Implementation of the plan resulted in:
- A higher profile for the program across the region and the state
- Increased positive media coverage
- Increased participation from the regional community and target audiences
