Background

The Alinytjara Wilurara NRM Board in South Australia has been keen to integrate land owned and managed by Aboriginal people, into each of the NRM regions. The transition project is assisting with the integration of NRM services with Aboriginal interests across South Australia. The aim of the project is to enable Aboriginal people and NRM workers to access relevant and current NRM information, connecting communities to NRM activities.

Our Role

Rural Solutions SA has facilitated the development of an innovative DSC01117website which is a two way communication tool. The website includes a contact database and a NRM region by region page on Aboriginal NRM activities. By accessing the site, it is possible to develop a personal resume with the option of both saving and printing the document. This, once fnalised is automatically placed on a state-wide database. NRM project managers can simply use the search engine to fnd people with appropriate skills and the database will identify these people.

Outcomes

The project has been incredibly successful. The website is now “the place to go” to fnd out what is going on in Aboriginal NRM in South Australia. Aboriginal businesses can now contract out their staff for NRM related work and NRM bodies can more easily access people to work on NRM activities.

Investigation is underway to expand this to a national website portal for use in each State of Australia.
