City to Glenelg Tramline

Stress-free environmental management and implementation, on time and on budget.

The contractors appointed to the restoration of the Glenelg tramline were from interstate and consequently were unaware of some of the State OH&S and environmental regulations.Glenelg tramline

The tramline had been contaminated by the use of products used to control weeds over the 70 years of its operations. The restoration of the environment and stations after works was important to local communities, councils along the line, Trans Adelaide and the State Government.

Rural Solutions SA was retained to work with the contractors to ensure the safety of the workforce involved, as well as of the community living by the tramline. We were also asked to conduct EPA reviews and to restore the visual amenity of each of the 20 stations along the line.

What we did.

Rural Solutions SA worked with the contractors’ staff and subcontractors to provide clear directions in workplace safety, establishing the ground rules, processes and training necessary to deliver a safe environment for all those working on the line and residents living adjacent to the line.

Our wealth of environmental knowledge enabled us to develop environmental pollution guidelines and processes for all contractors and subcontractors to follow. This involved monitoring waste movement, dust, noise and potential discharge issues and providing regular updates to the contractor, EPA, councils and Trans Adelaide.

Rural Solutions SA was also responsible for landscape design and implementing the restoration for each station. This included identifying and obtaining suitable plant species, select subcontractor planting team and managing their activities. A maintenance/replanting program over the following 12 months was also provided.

What we achieved.

Rural Solutions SA’ project management skills provided a stress free process that enabled the restoration program to be undertaken with great efficiency. Contractual requirements, accreditation requirements and Government legislation were all taken care of and detailed reports were provided to each relevant body.

The project was extremely successful with all State agencies happy with the processes used. The Councils were also happy with the negotiation and restoration process and the contractor completed the works on budget and on time. Similar projects have been undertaken for a range of organisations.
