  • Lawn grass makes life greener for Kangaroo Island farmers

    A species of lawn common to the Australian suburbs is literally making the grass greener for Kangaroo Island farmers.  Despite low rainfall, long and hot dry summers, sandy soils and salinity, some Kangaroo Island farmers are discovering that Kikuyu grass is proving to be a hardy pasture species well suited to the island.

    Each year Rural Solutions SA is asked to compile a comprehensive report on the total area of revegetation that has occurred within South Australia.  As in previous years, we again need the assistance of nurseries, local councils, community groups or any other organisations that were involved in any form of revegetation activity throughout the year.

    A new approach to designing dairy shed effluent storage and management systems firstly addresses the question of how the effluent is to be spread.  Mr O’Keefe recently presented a paper titled ‘Resource – Not Waste” at an Australian Water Association seminar in Sydney attended by wastewater engineers, food processors, plant managers and water technologists.

Local staff will also provide hands on advice and guidance for Seed Services Australia’s exciting internet services – seeds online and payments online, and process crop applications and account payments.
