ABC TV’s The Cook and the Chef and Jigsaw Media Solutions Sumptuous magazine and television will contest an important industry category at the Premier’s Food Awards 2007. They have been named finalists in the Rural Solutions SA Services to Industry Award, with the winner to be announced at the awards night on Friday, November 16 at the Adelaide Convention Centre hosted by Premier Mike Rann.

With the environment becoming daily more important – and solutions sought for many issues, Rural Solutions SA is undertaking a major drive to develop opportunities with Local Government. Local environmental problems need local responses and these need to be found with the involvement and approval of local communities. Rural Solutions SA will have a strong presence at the national Local Government Sustainable Development Conference in Melbourne in September 11th-12th.

It’s the biggest convention and trade gathering in the national wine industry – and Rural Solutions SA will be there. WineTech is the premier trade show and convention in the Australian wine industry calendar and attracts more than 3500 delegates and visitors. The 2007 event is being held in Adelaide and Rural Solutions SA will be present to showcase the range of information, expertise and experience it can offer the industry.

Rural Solutions SA continues to win plaudits for its work – a second major award has been made to the Sturt River Linear Park Master Plan. The Royal Australian Institute of Architects (SA) Awards, presented at a ceremony in Adelaide with guest speaker Professor Tim Flannery on 29 June, gave a commendation for the linear park concept by Swanbury Penglase Architects in the Urban Design category. Swanbury Penglase worked with a Rural Solutions SA team of consultants that comprised Wayne Brown, Geoffrey Bishop and Catherine Miles.

Riverland irrigators have been urged to test for soil salinity before applying leaching irrigation. Rural Solutions SA’s Principal Horticulture consultant Duncan Tullett says there are only three weeks left this irrigation year to make decisions on leaching applications.

South Australian dairy farmers are encouraged to apply for a limited number of new grants, aimed at implementing best management practices for dairy effluent systems on their properties.
