The South East Field Days are just around the corner and what better time is there to learn a new thing or two to help your business. PIRSA will have a dedicated NLIS stand at this year’s Field Days to help producers become more familiar with some of the finer point of the NLIS system, especially the database.
PIRSA’s NLIS team has a focus this year of getting as many producers as possible to have an account on the NLIS database. South Australia has around 12,000 cattle Property Identification Codes, but only 2,000 or so have NLIS database accounts set up.
An NLIS account allows producers to easily check what cattle are registered to their property and more importantly what cattle are not registered to them.
If you want to market your cattle as lifetime traceable or want to buy cattle that are lifetime traceable it is important you have an account on the NLIS Database. Likewise, if you buy cattle privately, through a saleyard or if you move cattle between properties for agistment it is important that you have an account on the database.
The NLIS database allows producers to view a lot of useful information about their cattle from carcase feedback to their lifetime traceability.
At this year’s Field Days PIRSA’s NLIS team will be able to set you up with a database account and show you some of the useful functions. We will also have on display some of the latest NLIS technology and can answer any questions you may have regarding the system so please come and give us a visit.
