Small landowners getting big benefits

The Linking Sustainable Land Use and Lifestyle Properties’ project has begun receiving warm reviews in the Clare Valley. The project funded through the Eyre Peninsula and Northern York Natural Resource Management Boards, is designed to assist owners of small rural landholdings (three to twenty hectares in size) in making confident and knowledgeable decisions regarding land management on their properties.

The first group of landowners have already attended three workshops and one field day and are well on their way to becoming well rounded land managers. The next step in the project is individual consultation with a Rural Solutions SA consultant to develop a property management plan. Additionally participants are able to access grants of up to $1000 per property to implement strategies to address issues on their property.

Topics covered at the workshops and field day include: property planning, land and water management principles, weed identification and control, pest animal control, biodiversity, natural vegetation management, revegetation, and enterprise tools.

For those of you that are interested participating in this program and would like to attend the next round of workshops please contact project officer, Leah Feuerherdt at the Rural Solutions SA office in Clare on 08 8842 6230.
