APSIM & Yield Prophet are crop simulation models developed by the CSIRO and the Birchip Cropping Group that use information about soil type, climate and management to produce a paddock specific yield forecast.
Basically this means improved decision making to better meet the season’s potential.
Farmers and consultants can match management inputs to each seasons yield potential.
This allows for high yields to be obtained in good seasons, and costs reduced in poor seasons, thus maximising profit and minimising risk.
'Over three years of operation, if soils are properly characterised, Yield Prophet can explain 80% of the variability observed in yields from all cropping regions from the Darling Downs to Esperance'.
There will be a workshop facilitated by Rod Eldridge of Rural Solutions SA ,for the Healthy Soils Project, and the South East NRM Board on Tuesday 8th April, 2008, at Bordertown Catholic Church Hall, Victoria Parade, Bordertown .
Dr Patricia Hill from CSIRO Adelaide and Horsham and Dr James Hunt from the Birchip Cropping Group will be the main presenters for the day.
There is a cost of $10 to cover the cost of lunch.
The day will start at 9:15am discussing APSIM/ Yield Prophet then from 3:15pm to 4:15pm there will be a session discussing the use of Yield Prophet in 2008.
RSVP's appreciated by Monday 1st April. For more information please contact Rod Eldridge 0427 220 183 or Janette Ridgway 8753 2338 or 0427 532 338. Or you can register online.
