Farm future relies on best laid plans

Rural Solutions SA business planning consultants are working closely with farming families across all industry sectors to help farmers in Exceptional Circumstances declared areas.

Empowering farmers to make strategic decisions amidst extreme circumstances is at the heart of the “Planning for Recovery” project.

The project aims to help farmers in Exceptional Circumstances declared areas to make decisions and implement programs to deal with drought recovery. Clare based consultant Paul Erkelenz is one member of a state wide team of Rural Solutions SA business planning consultants who are involved in the project.

“Our approach is to develop business plans that look at all the key aspects of a farming business; land management, financial health, profit and loss forecasts as well as different potential on-farm enterprises,” Paul said.

“We also pay particular attention to the people side of the business, dealing with issues such as skills shortages, family and work relationships on the farm and succession planning.
