No Tag = No Sale

New policy for untagged cattle in Saleyards

Starting February 1st, all cattle sold through South Eastern saleyards must be NLIS tagged. Untagged cattle will not be offered for sale.

Any cattle found without tags will be tagged with NLIS post breeder tags prior to sale.

Vendors will be charged for any post breeder tags issued to their cattle at saleyards.

The ‘no tag- no sale’ policy will bring SE saleyards inline with the national NLIS protocol, whereby all cattle sold through Australian saleyards are NLIS tagged.

This new system will be managed by PIRSA Animal Health and SE stock agents.

The ‘no tag – no sale’ policy will help protect vital Australian beef markets.

Some export beef markets demand cattle to be Lifetime Traceable (LT). To ensure cattle are LT, all movements between properties of different PIC’s must be registered on the NLIS database.

Cattle with post breeder tags applied at the market will lose their Lifetime Traceability status.

To ensure your cattle maintain market options and avoid extra charges – make sure all cattle are sent into the saleyards with NLIS tags.
