Drought

Radio Transcript

Welcome to Agritalk

This week we are going to be talking about a national drought funding program and a South Australian brochure that might help people from other states.

Grants of $5,000 and $10,000 are now available to Australian farmers under the Woolworths Sustainable Farming Program, thanks to the support of Woolworths shoppers,  who last year raised $4.7 million to help Australian Farmers.

The Sustainable Farming Grants program is a collaboration between Landcare Australia and the Country Women’s Association otherwise known as the (CWA)

The program will assist in the distribution of $1.5 million of funds to develop, improve and encourage sustainable farming practices and increase the capacity of farming businesses to manage through, and recover quickly from droughts.

It specifically focuses on properties in areas that are declared eligible for ‘exceptional circumstances’ assistance. Applications are open from both farming groups and individuals who wish to undertake projects in any primary production industry that assists farmers to better manage their farming operations in response to drought.

For more information go to the landcare website.  A SA Government brochure called ‘Drought Assistance Measures’ provides a snapshot of a wide variety of programs and assistance available to those currently in Exceptional Circumstances declared areas

It lists programs under headings such as Financial Support, Health & Wellbeing, School & Education,  then has a map of either South Australia or Australia to denote whether assistance is available Australia wide or within South Australia.

This brochure is a valuable reference guide not just to South Australians, but to people in other states who want a handy reference guide to national programs.

The brochure is available online.
