RTC2016A Recognise Plants

RTC2016A Recognise Plants is a common unit from the Conservation and Rural Industry Training Packages.

The aim of the Recognising Weeds in our Waters workshop is to provide field staff with skills to recognise serious aquatic weeds, their impact in our waterways, and relevant legislation.

Recognising plant characteristics is the focus here rather than the scientific study of identification.  The workbook outlines key features of those weeds posing a serious threat to our waterways.  Some look-alikes are covered as well as several native aquatic plants.  The trainer will include further aquatic plants that may be of concern in the local area.

The assessment of participants is a continual process throughout the one-day workshop.  Via oral questions, activities and the workbook tasks performed by participants during the training session.

Information in this course is intended to benefit field staff or volunteers working in resource management, including:

  • Local council staff
  • Parks and wildlife staff
  • Natural Resource Management Board
  • Waterwatch volunteers
